Cost of Living in Abu Dhabi?

By the way, as I mentioned below, I was offered the job in Abu Dhabi. Can anyone familiar with Abu Dhabi tell me how much a person needs to earn to be able to live in a 2 bedroom apartment there, send two kids to an OK school, pay a maid's salary, and hopefully save a little bit each month?

Abu Dhabi? Cool ... I don't know anything about the cost of living there.
I so want to visit UAE, someday. :)
Maybe this will help (it looks like it's from 2005): http://www.principalconsulting.com.au/ngn/engine/SID/1000105
One thing I can think of to cut your costs if necessary, is to forgo a maid. It's probably something you're used to, but maybe if you need to spend less you can wait on getting one.

Hi Aynur,

Thanks for the info.

I really can't do without the maid, because as a full time working mom I need someone at home for the children... especially if I am working 6 days a week 11-12 hours a day. :( wish I could be there for them myself. I wish, but I am afraid it is not my destiny to have anyone care for me so I can be with them all the time.

Ah, I see - I thought you were referring to more of a maid that does cleaning as opposed to a nanny/maid. My bad. Of course you need someone to watch the kids.

hii i have not commented before but have livied in the uae.u probably wont find a large house in abu dhabi but u will find an apartment.but it think its worth it to sacrifice the space for your peace of mind.staying at your same place of emplyment with a lower salary is worse and will make u feel bad everyday..u need to be mentally healthy for your children.a change is better and who knows while u there in abu dhabi u may find something else too.good luck

thanks puca, nanusa

@nanusa
well i figure financially i will be in the same situation with both jobs, the only difference then is time - at least if i stay here i can work 8-4 and have the full weekend off. I wont be reporting to the same person so I think that the situation will be better. Of course eventually I will leave this place, but it might be Ok until i find something good for me and my family. I don't know... am very confused. I wrote to the Abu Dhabi people and expressed my concerns about the housing - so let's see what they have to say.

I think u need let's say at the beginning 7.000 dhs to 10.000 just as u mention all the things to have a decent life ( rent,monthly expanses,childrens school, maid..and maybe to save litlle ).
But rather i would not go for the 5.000 salary coz i'm sure won't help much!

I asked my husband, he says that renting a flat in A.D. is going to cost 150.000 AED and above yearly.

Abu Dhabi is one of the places that is really good to stay. See their Abu Dhabi Condominiums and you will never ask for more.
